xdt (the actual binary
name) is a comprehensive filemanager for the Linux desktop. It
features all of the expected file and directory handling commands such
as copying, moving, deleting, linking, setting permissions (chmod),
setting owner and group (chown), and file editing.
All commands are single
keystroke. Most are simple function keys, and the help panel lists all
commands available at a glance. The interface also fully supports point
and click operation, while keeping the feel of the original console
version of dt.
It also supports file
marking to operate on multiple files at once. Mark all files or unmark
all files in a directory.
Type highlighting to know
at a glance what type each entry is. For example directories, links,
marked files, and regular files all display in different colors
selectable by the user.
The quick search allows
you to press any alpha-numeric key and dt will take you to the first
entry beginning with that letter.
Multiple sort types (or no
sort), so you can find files by extension, name, date/time, filesize,
by simply clicking on the column header to sort.
Editing existing text or
config files, or creating new ones has never been easier. xdt comes
with a built in syntax highlighting editor. Highlight the file
you
want to edit and press the enter key. It's that simple. You can create
a
new text file by pressing the insert key, or force the highlighted file
into the editor by using the Ctrl+f command.
xdt also has a very nice
archive center to help you create, manitain, or unpack most archive
types found in Linux.
